Political Protests Discouraged -- by both parties Meanwhile, demonstrators who want to be near the [convention] hall, where their message can be heard and seen, will be confined to a "demonstration zone" surrounded by mesh wire and concrete barriers. It is about two football fields from the hall's main entrances. That's from USA Today -- and they're talking about the upcoming Democratic convention. Protestors at the Republican convention are permitted to approach that building to within eighty-four feet. When the building is unoccupied, of course. The rot spreads, slowly. |

DON'T DO IT!! IT'S A TRAP!!! Notorious Cubs fan Bartman could get big pay day. by FOXSports.com Updated: July 23, 2008, 8:14 PM EST Steve Bartman may have made Cubs fans see red, but he could be seeing some green next week.
SportsBuy.com and the National Sports Collectors Convention have announced that they will offer the Cubs fan $25,000 in cash to simply sign one autograph.
Bartman interfered with a foul ball during Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS at Wrigley Field — a game the Cubs ended up losing. The team then dropped Game 7 — and a shot at the World Series — to the Florida Marlins.
In its announcement on Wednesday, the National Sports Collectors Convention said Bartman would have to show up at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., on July 31, prove his identity, and sign one photo from that infamous incident at Wrigley.
After the picture is signed, the photo will be auctioned off, with the money raised going to a Chicago-based charity.
Of course, the payout and auction will only occur if Bartman shows his face, something the infamous fan has avoided since the incident. Current Mood: devious |

Writer's Block: Entertainment: Fall TV Season
I don't really get excited about TV shows, and even if I did it'd be moot as my digital reciever has decided it doesn't want to talk to two of the channels. To be honest I don't much watch TV at all. I'd love to get to watch CSI or Midsomer Murders, but I don't think CSI is on the public service channels and Midsomer Murders has been running on one of the channels my digital reciever doesn't like. Besides, I don't have very good memory, so I end up missing the darn shows anyway. :P -Alexandra |

Free Obama button I've been following moveon.org for a few years now, mostly with a raised eyebrow. I'm very happy to see how much they've embraced Obama. They're giving away free buttons now!

And just because I didn't mention this yet... Something I'd really love to do some day would be to get a bunch of husky fursuiters together, go on a vacation to Finland or so, and harness them all up and make them pull sleds. ^.^ It'd probably be borderline BDSM (at the very least - in the same way that ponyplay etc. are), but that's not a bad thing... ^.~ Current Mood: tired |

¡No seas membrillo! Eh... crappy day, for the most part. I did get to talk to shadow_stallion in the morning, which was nice, but other than that, it just didn't go very well. I actually went to the gym early in the afternoon today already (more on that tomorrow, I'm too tired to write about it now - not that anyone's interested in it, anyway, so maybe I should just stop making those posts altogether), thinking that this way, I'd have the entire evening to myself for a change, but while that was technically true, I still didn't really do anything. What I did do was go to the supermarket; I didn't end up really buying anything, though, except for a few food items and a few other things I needed (cleaning supplies, mostly). In fact, it was pretty frustrating overall, and not just because I'm really fed up with not being able to afford anything for the most part (yes, I do have a little bit of money available at the moment that I COULD spend, but that's precisely BECAUSE I don't usually buy anything except for what's strictly necessary (like food), and then only the cheapest stuff, too); that did play a role, too, of course, but it was also frustrating outside of that, although why, I still can't really say. Later on, I didn't really do anything at all - I talked to kalogrenant on the phone for a while and uploaded a few pictures of another bread I made on Monday to Flickr, but that's it. All in all, it's been a pretty crappy day - just like all my days have been crappy recently, and just like tomorrow will likely be crappy again as well, just like Friday, and then the weekend, and so on. And meanwhile, housework's piling up, but I just can't motivate myself to actually do anything. I'm not sure why I'm feeling like this, but I'm entirely unhappy, lonely, and unfulfilled, and I have no idea how to actually change that - pretty much anything I can think of seems like it would either just make it worse or be impossible to actually achieve. It really sucks, but what can you do... Current Mood: restlessCurrent Music: Sodom - Aber Bitte Mit Sahne |

San Diego Bound! I'm out for a very long weekend to Comic-Con International, going to put in a few important hours as staff, but mostly getting to experience the jam packed convention hall and dealer's floor. Anthrocon had 3300 attendees; CCI has 125,000. It'll be my first and I can't wait. Is there any place in particular I should browse? Any picture requests? Current Mood: bouncy |

Writer's Block: My Personal Style
Comfortable. I prioritize comfort over just about anything else when it comes to clothing -- there are some colors I hate and will never wear, and some colors I'd never wear on anything but pants, but for the most part I'm happy as long as I'm comfortable. Typically, this means I'll be dressed in camo pants (I have two pairs of military surplus pants I bought when I lived in Marion, IA, and they're my favorite pants) and a T-shirt. I might wear jeans or sweatpants if need be, and though I may bundle up with tights or something underneath if need be, these'll serve me throughout the year. If a T-shirt is not sufficient to stay warm, I'll wear a hoodie over it, generally one with a zipper. I'm about as fashion blind as I am tone deaf, and there's no guarantee my clothes on any given day will match. As long as I'm comfortable, I don't really care. I'd much rather be comfortable and look like a freak than look neat and feel smothered by my own clothing. -Alexandra Current Music: Walking on Broken Glass - Annie Lennox |

Weight loss Yeah, it's wednesday, so I checked my weight again. I'm down to 121.7, which is a slight loss compared to last week; I also checked my body fat percentage etc. again, using my other scales (which gave a figure of 116.6 for my weight this time, but as usual, that should probably be disregarded), and got 28.7% body fat (-1.3 percentage points), 52.2% body water (+1.3 percentage points) and 38.0% muscle mass (+0.3 percentage points). Strange that the loss in body fat is exactly the gain in body water again, although I'm still not sure how much these numbers can be trusted, anyway. Current Mood: awake |

From the Lips of Johnny Himself. http://venturebeat.com/2008/07/21/e3-perspective-an-interview-with-john-riccitiello-ceo-of-electronic-arts/"There is a longer-term transition from a disk-based model for retail sales to an “average revenue per user” model. Five to seven years from now, investors will look at EA as how we have 100 million customers where we have an ARPU relationship that amounts to so many dollars a month. It’s different from selling so many disks a month at wholesale prices. It’s a gradual evolution. But we need the tools to be able to do that. The ARPU model is a better margin business for us. It’s less cyclical. It’s a better business. Some of our businesses have characteristics like that: EA Mobile, Pogo.com, and The Sims. We want to move in that direction. People predicted the demise of the DVD rental model for Blockbuster a long time ago. I don’t want to be the guy with a retail store renting DVDs in a world that has moved to Netflix and pay-per-view." So yes, games are now seen as a "service" you pay for, NOT a product you buy. Fuck you EA CEO. Fuck you. Current Mood: NOT amused |

2nd Nerf Vulcan Found Another Nerf Vulcan has been found in Denver Colorado. The guy posted about it in the Nerfhaven forum here, http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12359He cut off a big portion of the front of the gun, something we call 'minimizing.' He claims the front is just empty plastic that serves no purpose, and sawing it off makes the gun a little less unwieldy. But, c'mon, did you have to carve up the gun so soon after buying it? He also removed the air restrictors from the dart belts. He's been a total ass about things in the forums overall, and provided very little concrete info. Meh, it'll be a moot point in a week or two. If you're a digger, please digg my head's up about Jamie's Vulcan pics. I'm pissed that we scooped Gizmodo and Digg by at least a week and went totally overlooked. http://digg.com/gadgets/Nerf_Vulcan_Pics_25_round_belt_fed_Nerf_Machine_GunIf you want to order one yourself from the Hasbro website instead of waiting 'til Walmart gets them, go here. http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/ProductsByCategory.htm?CD=121&ST=SO&ID=22379&PG=2 |
